Cactus flowers

A small moment of delight. The ugly old cactus in the terracotta pot outside has thrown up these perfect, delicate, pure white flowers. It happens every few month and they last barely the day. But for a few hours they are the most gorgeous flowers until they start to wither, discolour and fray. Everytime I find them I feel my heart and soul lift at their sheer beauty. must be some lessons in this : beauty from ugly, moments of joy, nothing lasts, nothing is irredeemable, fragility in time, loss but the promise of rebirth...
